Work product

Ellie has been bringing home great work product from school and so I thought I would share some of the latest works.

Here she wanted to practice writing her name, her dad's name and my name. She has become very interested in letters and sounds and how to spell things. Of couse we are going to keep encouraging this as it is the beginning of learning to read. She liked that all three of us had Ns in our name.

The next two photos are of a book that Ellie put together. The cover has a drawing of princesses with their feet in water. She folded up several other pages and stuck them in the book. She said she couldn't write all the words, but she wanted to show that there were words to the book.

Ellie starting to learn addition at school as well as practicing writing her numbers (she still has the fun curly 6). She says she enjoys doing the numbers and finger board (practicing addition) at school.

This s a map which she colored in. Last night when she got home, Nick helped her put the princess stickers to represent where the "live". Sleeping Beauty in SoCal (Disneyland has Sleeping Beauty's castle), Cinderella in Florida as her castle is in Disneyworld, Tianna in Louisiana, Ariel in the ocean, and Rapunzel...Ellie and Nick didn't know where she lived, but she was pretty and Ellie wanted her on the page somewhere.

At school she showed me the map she is working on. Apparently it was in progress and do where she was got saved from yesterday. Ellie says the map is one of her favorite things at school. After she does the map puzzle, she gets a sheet and colors the states to match the map that she just put together (shown above).

She brought her fancy Barbie (a gift from friends for her birthday) to school for show and tell. She was pretty excited.

Also, apparently when asked who her Valentine was...my daughter said:

What?!? Everyone else said a parent or a teacher...nobody else said an animal! Well, at least we know she was charting her own course.

Interesting Conversations

Ellie is starting to develop into a little conversationalist. Last night she asked me if I knew that 5 plus 5 was 10 (guess she is learning something!). I said that I did and we talked about how we have five fingers on each hand and 10 total.

She then stated that she wanted to go to Legoland because of the pancakes. She relayed a story about a friend who really likes the pancakes at Legoland. We said there were probably other fun things there too, but she wanted the pancakes!

At bedtime she called me a poopyhead, so sometimes she is just a frustrated kid who will lash out.

This morning we both overslept, and had to rush to get to school on time. She wasn't happy she didn't have time to play, nor was she impressed with the ponytail I gave her.

But her Illinois sweatshirt finally fits (it's a 3T but was always big on her) and its the perfect weight for the morning coolness and post-swimming warmth.

Funny jokester

So Ellie is slowly learning the art of a joke. She hasn't quite mastered knock knock jokes but she keeps trying. She really does want to make people laugh and has learned (as I guess all kids do at this age) that potty humor will typically get a rise out of her friends (and her dad).

Last night she told us a joke her teacher had said. Apparently Ellie farted and her teacher said, "thanks for sharing that!" and it made her laugh. So she told us the story to make us laugh.

This morning at home she spent quite a bit of time playing with these dress up doll stickers she got from a friend for her birthday. She was also pretty happy that it was sharing day, she took her Cinderella phone.

Pigtail Monday

Today is a swim lesson day, so Ellie went to school with her hair up, in pigtails per her request.

She was kinda funny this morning. After waking up, she came in our room to see if I was awake, once she confirmed I was (without saying anything to me) she ran to the playroom and started playing with her figurines and Playmobil. I think she thought she was hiding? She was so happy to play for a while all by herself in the playroom.

She was pretty silly once we got to school, but happy to be there and see her friends.

Picture Day

Well today was picture day. I did my best to help Ellie pick out a suitable outfit (no pajamas or princess tshirts today) and did my best at brushing her hair. Everything was a compromise, so we will wait and see how the photos come out...

Ellie also said to me, "mommy, mornings are hard!!". And we talked about the reasons why mornings are hard...we are tired, it's dark outside, we are hungry, it takes a little bit to wake up...

But we made it out the door and she looked decent for photos. Hopefully she won't have yogurt all over her face and dress and will smile cute!

Happy Morning!

Maybe she was happy because I didn't wake her up an she got to sleep in, or she had chocolate cereal for breakfast, or because she got to take Sleeping Beauty with her new dress on it, or well, I don't know...but she was super happy.

At school she was over the moon that we arrived at the same time as two friends. She ran in like 20 steps ahead of me and I could barely keep up.

When she met up with all her friends, they were excited to see Valentines Day photos of themselves.

The photos were used for special cards That each kid presented to her parents. Here is Ellie's photo...

Birthday hangover?

She was not having the morning after her birthday. Didnt want to get up. Only wanted cake for breakfast. Wouldn't change out of her nightgown. Didn't want to wear shoes...grrrr. It was tough.

Eventually we got out the door, even with braids for swim lesson tonight. She had toast at school for breakfast (no, not cake...don't want to start any bad habits).

HAPPY 4th BIRTHDAY!!!

This morning she was so excited it was her birthday. The first thing she asked was if she was 4 now. I told her today was her birthday and she was 4 (maybe I'm the only one who will hold onto these last few hours of having a 3 year old until 11:31pm tonight when she turns 4). She said she was excited she could do "apple work" at school now...I think that means she uses a knife to cut up apples. She was insistent on having an apple in her lunch, so who knows!

She had a breakfast of a pop tart and strawberries. She didn't like the "special cereal bar" and only ate a portion of it.

Yesterday she received a present from my admin at work, a mermaid Barbie, which Ellie loves. This morning she also completed another sticker chart. She really was happy this morning, but really didn't want her picture taken.

We took cookies that Ellie helped make and decorate to school for sharing with friends (I also took some with a thank you note to my admin at work). Ellie took mermaid Barbie for sharing day.

Aunt SuSu also came to visit school this morning. Ellie was excited to show her the classroom and have her meet her teachers.

We will be picking Ellie up a little early from school as we are having a party with Susie this afternoon before she heads to the airport. There will be cake and presents!

Valentine hangover

Yep, that sums up the morning. She covered herself up, tried to hide, and wanted nothing to do with anything!

Finally we got to school and she set herself up at the computer.

Happy Valentines Day!

Ellie was super excited about Valentines day today. There is going to be a "feast" at school which Ellie has been telling us the menu of for a couple days.

She is excited to hand out Valentines. And we didn't really follow instructions (send 18 valentines with you kids name on back), we sent valentines pre labeled with classmates (and teachers) names on them. I spoke to the teachers and explained the situation and they said it was fine, that they would help Ellie put valentines in the right places. Ellie felt it was important that boys got boy valentines (Batman) and girls got girl valentines (princesses). I also sent in some extra valentines just in case we missed anyone. At school Ellie put her bag of valentines into the big box.

She was pretty excited to find her bag (she decorated it herself) and can't wait to see all her valentines.

She also said that she made us a present... So I'm excited to see what that is.

As a side note, today marks Nick and my 13th anniversary of when we had out first date.

Happy Valentines Day everyone.

So excited to see me she woke up extra early!

Yep, Ellie was up at 6:00am. I was too, but usually I like to get dressed prior to waking her up and getting her ready.

She gave me the best hug and asked if I was staying for a while because she missed me. She also reminded me tomorrow is Valentines day and then her birthday, and of course I would be here for that!

While I was getting ready, she went through my luggage and found some new dresses grandma Pam had picked out to give her for her birthday. Before I knew it she had picked out out and had it on...oh well.

She also snuck a Squinkie to school (it's not sharing day...). Her new dress has pockets and she tucked the little Cinderella Squinkie in one of the pockets and snuck it to school...

At school she ran for the computer. If you look closely in the photos, you can see the Squinkie in her hands.

Back to School Blast-Off!

This morning Ellie was excited to take her scale replica toy of the space shuttle Endeavour (from our trip to the California ScienCenter over the weekend) to show her friends at school for Sharing Day. You wouldn't know she was excited by this picture, but she was. She was just more concerned about getting into her classroom to start playing.

After we got there, she showed me a lot of cool toys. They have a globe that spins and lights up and talks.. teaching kids about geography. And, she and Lauren played with some little dinosaurs, too.

When it was time for me to go, and for Ellie to join her friends in circle time, she was a little reluctant to let go of my hand. She did eventually, though.

TGIF

Ellie and I had a good morning. Mostly due to the fact that we weren't rushed to get out the door before 7am. She even let me put her hair up.

She had plenty of time to play with her beloved squinkies.

We arrived at school at the same time as Lauren. Ellie waited patiently for her to get out of her car and the two tok off running into school.

They immediately looked for something to do together once in the classroom.

But then Ellie noticed another friend was a little sad so she have her a hug and decided to stay and play with her.

Ellie is looking forward to a weekend with her dad. I know Nick has lots of fun stuff planned...

Thursday book Day

Today is show and tell again. Ellie has developed a huge fascination with her Richard Scarry big book of words (which I have strong memories of enjoying looking trough when I was a kid). We have read it at night two nights in a row and she wanted to bring it to school today.
