Closing Day!

Today is closing day on the house, but that has nothin to do with this post or Ellie's morning antics.

She was up early, crawled in bed and maybe took a little nap. I'm not sure. But she definitely woke up on the wrong side. She argue about everything! She even was super picky about breakfast begging for a waffle then declaring she didn't want it and throwing a tantrum for applesauce (she also threw applesauce, but that's a different story). However, some Disney music and her American Girl catalog calmed her down.

There is a new historical doll from 1812 in the catalog. In one of her photos she is holding a candle. Ellie asked me what it was and I explained it was a candle which was like a really big birthday candle.

"mommy, fire is hot. Why is she holding the candle. Didn't her mommy tell her 'hot! Don't touch'?"

"well, people used to have to use candles because they didn't have electricity for lights."

"we have lights now though mommy. I won't get hurt holding a candle for light".

Then she turned the page and found Julie. A doll from 1960s San Francisco. Her new accessory is a tape recorder and a record player.

"what is he holding mommy?"

"a tape recorder. We don't have those anymore either."

"What's that mommy?"

"a record player. Records play music. We don't use records anymore either."

"because we have your phone now?"

I nodded and thought about all the other things which are or will soon be obsolete that Ellie won't use. But to lump the use of candles and record players in the same conversation was a little odd. I mean, I never had a record player...but there was one in the house when I was a kid.

The she decided it was going to be cold and asked for a "sweatshirt". I think she was just playing fashion girl, because she also wore bracelets to school.
