Making a Splash

Ellie had another round of swimming lessons again this afternoon. And again she impressed her teacher. She got a lot of attention, too, being the only kid in her group for the second straight week.

Ellie practiced floating on her tummy and on her back -- "turtle float" and "pancake float" respectively.

She also practiced her scoops and kicks for swimming above the surface. She even started to get the hang of occasionally lifting her head out if the water to take breaths. She hasn't mastered that part yet.. but she's getting there.

What impressed Ellie's teacher the most, though, was her fearlessness toward putting her face in the water and holding her breath. Even some kids in the group above her are still afraid to do that.

Ellie also did a great job of "rescuing" a Nemo toy and a Winnie the Pooh from the bottom of the pool.. diving down from the surface to pluck them off the floor of the 3-foot deep section of the pool. She also "went fishing" for a yellow diving ring.
