Disappointment

Ellie has been sniffling all week and had a slight cough yesterday (likely due to drainage from her runny nose). Last night she could not fall asleep and kept complaining her head hurt. I don't think she slept, she at least didn't stat in her room for more than 45 minutes, until 2 am after nick had left when she crawled into bed with me and tossed and turned and told me her head hurt every hour.

This morning she was obviously groggy having not slept, but she also still complained of a headache. She said her head hurt so much that she couldn't sit up. She also has a fever of 101. So I told her she wasn't going to go to school.

Today at school is water play and a luau pizza party ( summer school is fun!). Ellie was VERY upset to miss school. She tried to convince me she felt fine. But when I said that if she could stand up and do jumping jacks that would show me she was feeling better, she rolled over and and mumbles that it would hurt too much.

She's now curled up on the couch half asleep. Poor thing...

"No!" Kinda morning

She was not happy to get up. She kept yelling "no" at me when I would ask or tell her to do something...like wake up.

Eventually she responded to me, "I keep saying no. You have to respect that!" Obviously something she learned at school...

She eventually got up, dressed, ate a full bowl of cereal, put on shoes and socks, cooperated during sunscreen, and let me put her hair up (it's supposed to be really hot today so I wanted her hair off her neck). She even quickly and without argument picked out a sharing toy.

Slow-motion morning

It's not that Ellie was moving in slow motion this morning, it's just that a few events occurred that almost happened in slow motion.

First at 4:30am I awake to Ellie screaming for me. I think a night terrors woke her up and she needed me to help her fall back asleep. It was off that she didn't get out of bed as she usually would.

Then, shortly later at 5:15 I got woken up again by her yelling that she had an accident in bed. Lately an "accident" has meant she caught herself but her undies were a tad wet, but sheets and everything were fine.

Today we had a pee-plosion.

Everything was drenched. Soaked. A mess. I'll spare everyone details, but trust me you didn't want to be there. She was upset. I was exhausted and didn't know what was happening and everywhere I looked it was wet.

Ellie finally got cleaned up. I got the sheets off and into the washer. It was too late to go back to bed, but too early to get up...so we dozed together on the couch.

Then she started complaining she was too sick to go to school. She has been sniffling, but she's not sick. She found the thermometer and made me take her temp. I called her bluff and said if you are sick you can't go to swimming.

Her response, "I'm too sick for shook but if I stay home and rest ill be fine for swimming."

I probed her some more and turns out she really just didn't want to go to school because someone was mean to her yesterday and she didn't want to see them. But finally she agreed to go.

Smart manipulative kid.

Doesn't look sick to me...

Go 'Hawks

Congrats to the Blackhawks that won the Stanley cup last night. This whole series has been a big deal for us as a family because it was so important to Nick. (Why they are playing hockey in June I still don't understand, but it's over now.)

This shirt is from their 2010 NHL Championship win, however, it seemed appropriate to wear today

Is it raining?

That was our main discussion on the way to school. I'm convinced that it was just a heavy fog that caused some drops on the windshield. But Ellie presented her arguments that it was raining such as, you use the cleaner things a lot, the sky is too dark, it's too cold and only cold when it rains...

So we will see. If its fog it'll burn off by noon. Ifs it a drizzle or rain, it'll last longer.

If course we could have just looked up the weather online. However, since moving to California I've kinda forgotten how to do that. Seriously. I don't think I have looked up weather online or watched the news for weather in like a year.

It was an early morning. I dropped Ellie off just after 7:00am at school. When I left she was happy in her new dress with a breakfast of a blueberry waffle and an orange.

Too excited to sleep

Ellie was SO excited about today at school. It's a water play day so they have to wear swimsuits. It's pajama day (so swimsuit goes under her pajamas) and its breakfast for lunch that school is providing (maybe I was more excited that I didn't have to make a lunch for her today, an early birthday present from the school!)

Ellie was SO excited she was up at 5:15. I coaxed her back to bed for a little bit but I heard her wandering around at 5:40. I do give her credit though...she got herself dressed and everything for school all set up before I was awake. Knowing that I washed her nightgown last night she went through the dryer and found it. She even set out extra shoes...because water shoes were for water play only.

She asked to go to school early and eat breakfast there. Okay dokey.

Too cool for school

Ellen insisted on wearing/taking her sunglasses to school today. I don't think she thought she needed then for the sun, I think she just wanted a cool accessory for her outfit.

Too cool...

In my random update Tuesday I forgot to mention something! There is a BBQ restaurant near our house that Nick really likes. Last time we went it was Nicks birthday and Ellie noticed that they had hung up drawings/ colored pages by other kids. We also ate here on Fathers Day. As soon as we arrived she went to see if there were drawings up. When we sat down she declared, "I'm going to color this really nicely so that they will put up my drawing!" And she did. She focused and worked hard and then after our meal, asked our waitress if her picture could be hung up...

She was a happy kid!

Hurry up and wait

I made Ellie get up early, rush out of the house and eat breakfast in the car/school this morning. My goal was to get to the Los Angeles County, San Gabriel Valley building department to pull a permit for our window replacement before 8 when they open. So yeah, here I am now, waiting in a line of contractors outside the office...

Hurry up and wait.

Playing catchup

This morning Ellie was excited to show me a drawing she did of her and her best friend hanging out watching butterflies. On the other side she drew her and her friends getting into a car, "to go to Disneyland and ride space mountain...but only if you are tall enough".

The past couple weeks have been crazy with so much going on. There were little snapshots of life that haven't made it on here and photos that haven't been shared.

Like when we went to the library and Ellie worked on and completed a puzzle by herself but started by finding the corner pieces and putting them in the corners of the table she was working at:

Or her awesome curly flyaways..that remind me of myself when I was younger and flyaways were socially acceptable.

Or how "suitcase baby" had an accident (she is fixed now).

Or more photos of Ellie at swim lessons in her big kid class.

So that had been the little things that have been going on between major events like wedding anniversaries, Disneyland, end of school, start of summer school, and hockey playoffs (that's not a major life altering event in your life...you must not know nick then). So yeah, that's it, you may continue with your day. But here is one last photo to make you smile!

Summer School!

So after all the fun last week, summer school started today. Summer school is pretty much the same as regular school (as far as I can tell) except the class is smaller and Fridays are themed (pajamas, etc) or have water play.

We had a doozy of a weekend. I got a migraine on Saturday (I haven't had a migraine in forever so it was weird) and so I lost a day. Yesterday was full of fun for Father's Day. In the middle of all that was the weekend, Ellie and nick were practicing her bike and she took a pretty big spill. Nailed her elbow, knees, and palms and was a little shaken up.

It doesn't look so bad in these photos, little kids have like miracle skin where they heal super fast, or ellie is a super hero in training. But today all was feeling better, no more band aids and she was excited to get to school.

First day of summer...

And I put her to work! Or she came to work with me.

I set her up at the other side of my desk with a work book, snack, and some crayons. She also had access to my iPad if she wanted it. She was well behaved and kept herself busy.

Remember how a few weeks ago she decorated lunch bags for kids at a homeless shelter? Well today was the day that lunches would get packed and taken to the shelter. She helped our admin put date stickers on the bags and pack the lunches.

She was helpful and seemed to really enjoy helping the kids who don't have lunches. She also explained to Anyone who would listen how amazing Disneyland is for big kids and how awesome space mountain is.

Last day of school party!

And what a party it was! Nick and I both headed to the school for the end of the year party which included singing and dancing from the whole class as well as solo performances from the children that were moving on to kindergarten or other schools. It was also Mrs. Hydes last day as she is retiring.

In the morning, Ellie and I took a special gift and card to Mrs. Hyde. We really are going to miss her. She was SO welcoming and provided Ellie with a good school during our move last year. Ellie has thrived at Meher and it has been so interesting to watch her progress by leaps and bounds, guided by Mrs. Hyde.

Yeah, everyone needs a closer look at Ellie's outfit. Prepare yourself...

Picked out and put on by herself! I'm sure in like 10 years ill get in trouble for letting her wear this outfit on a day where lots of photos would be taken of her...but she wasn't graduating, and at least she got to be "that kid...".

Anyway back to the program and party. Like I said, singing and dancing...

It was interesting to watch Ellie. She was the one who knew all the words and was singing loudly, the kid the others watched for the arm motions, one of the two kids who were actually on beat...so she may have attracted attention because of her outfit, but at least she knew the words, choreography, and kept the beat.

Then there was lunch.

And cake.

Then this happened...

Kids running in circles, mass pandemonium...

We had a blast and all the kids who performed their talents (piano to dancing to karate to magic to hula hooping) were fantastic.

Ellie starts summer school on Monday.

Last lunch of the school year

I had a little mini-party in celebration of the last lunch I would make this school year. Tomorrow is the official last day of school for E and there is a lunch celebration, program, graduation ceremony. Friday she has the day off.

Of course, come Monday Ellie will be back at school for summer school...so I'll continue making lunches.

The kids are excited about the party and program tomorrow. Ellie has been chatting about it and singing constantly and practicing her dances.

This morning, she was excited to see her little buddy.
