"That's not a boat, Daddy!"

This morning I brought Ellie along as I fulfilled my civic duty -- casting my ballot in the election for at-large city councilors (thrilling, right?).

I tried to explain to Ellie during her stroller ride to the polling place what "voting" is.. but since it's sort of a complicated concept, I'm not quite sure she got it -- despite all the "yeahs," "okays," and "uh-huhs."

Once we got to the middle school where I vote.. I realized why Ellie had been so excited to go with me. She thought we were going to "a boat".. not "to vote."

"This is not a boat, Daddy! Boats go on water. This is a building!" She really enjoyed the boat ride to the aquarium last week.

Ellie's concern was assuaged a little bit when one of the ladies working the polls offered her a piece of candy corn. She was also happy to get an "I voted" sticker. (For some reason my phone.. or this app.. won't let me upload the sticker picture.)

Before we got too far Ellie enjoyed watching the kids at Warren-Prescott do some exercising outside in their school yard.
