Mondays...

For some reason Mondays are more difficult than other days. It's not like we spend the weekend partying or traveling or doing crazy things, but getting back into the normal school day routine is just that much more difficult. We actually just barely made it to school on time and so I don't have a photo from today. And in true Monday fashion, I will recount our weekend.

On Saturday I helped out at the preschool open house talking with potential parents about the school in the morning. Then we all headed out to The Grove and the LA Farmers Market (which is awesome and where I intend to spend half my maternity leave). The intent was to go to the American Girl store to buy Ellies birthday presents. I had though of going alone, but then decided I didn't want to, so nick and Ellie came along. Because she is SO easily distracted and entertained at the AG store, we pulled a total parent win and picked out, purchased, and put in the car presents for Ellie without her suspecting anything. While nick was taking the bag to the car, she asked me where he was, I told her he was tired and sat for a little rest while we looked at the dolls. She could have cared less where he was when surrounded with the American Girl dolls.

Then on Sunday it was a pretty full day. She got up 45 minutes earlier than usual, but she stayed in her room and played with her playmobil family.

Then she and I headed to a fancy nail salon in Old Town for her best friends birthday party. The little click of girls all had their first mani/pedi. I was a little weary of the whole salon and kid treatment so her nails were already trimmed and so she really just got them painted. The funniest thing was watching her read People as we waited for her friends at the salon.

She elected for pink and sparkly nails...did we think she would choose anything else? Some of her friends got flower art or sequins/crystals on their nails. But Ellie is just a pink with a glitter overlay of polish. Both of us are very happy with the results. There was also fancy cupcakes and chocolate milk from champagne flutes. She is concerned about how long it will last and everything I ask her to do (like sleep...) she asks if it will hurt her pretty nails. Such a worrier. I just hope she doesn't think this is normal...

After the salon we headed out for a pizza lunch. We had to leave a little early because we had to get Ellie to ballet. I had arranged for her to miss her usual class and go to the 6-7 year old class as a makeup. She was a bit freaked out by the bigger kids, but she really held her own, kept up, and actually did better (in my honest and ballet trained opinion) than some of the older kids.

Then after a quick rest at home, she and I headed out to Babies R Us to buy stuff for Chaos (diapers, wipes, the essential stuff purchased with a gift card from the Grandparentals Harrer, THANK YOU!). As crazy, hectic, and stressful as actually going to a babies r us is, I figured it would be the least crazy actually during the Super Bowl, and since Ellie doesn't watch TV and definitely not allowed to watch the Super Bowl and all the commercials, it worked out perfectly.

And then this morning we just moved slow and barely made it to school on time. But we did, and I handed out invitations for her birthday party...so I guess we are now locked into her party date and time, and actually doing a big party for her!
