"Little Big Kid"

This morning began with Ellie having a little bit of a lay in. I walked into her room at about 7:20 am surprised she wasn't awake yet -- as there had been no sounds emanating from the baby monitor -- only to find she *was* awake.. just keeping very quiet. I walk in and she says, "Hi, Daddy. Good morning. Where's Mommy?" (She usually asks where Mommy is or if Mommy's working if she isn't the one to get Ellie up in the morning.)

I said, "Mommy's at work. I thought you were still sleeping."

Ellie replies, "I'm not sleeping. Just relaxing thinking about my day." Didn't know she was one for quiet introspection.

As we walked out the door Ellie was excited to find three pumpkins on our steps that Ann picked out yesterday. They'll be carved and decorated in the days before Halloween.

As we were heading to the bus stop Ellie enjoyed watching the kids walking to the Warren-Prescott School as they passed her on the sidewalk. She then offered a rather new outlook on her growing up. "Those kids [Warren-Prescott students] are way-big kids, Daddy. I'm a little big kid."

Well.. the little big kid did a very good job on the bus this morning. Ellie walked up the steps herself, picked a seat herself, rang the stop bell herself, and walked down the steps herself. She's been wanting to try all that for a while, asking me most days, and sure enough she's an old pro bus rider now. She was quite happy with herself.
