"I get dressed myself."

This morning Ellie asked to get herself dressed. I suggested some long pants and a long-sleeved t-shirt since it's a little chilly out today, but she had some other ideas. I decided I'd go along with whatever she wanted to wear -- as long as it was warm enough -- but feared a little about what she'd pick. Here's how our conversation went:

Me: "Okay, you can get dressed yourself. What would you like to wear?"

Ellie: "I wear a dress. Polka dot dress."

Me: "Ellie, it's a little chilly outside today. We should wear long sleeves and pants."

Ellie: "Okay. Under my dress."

Me: "That's a good idea to put them under, but I think that polka dot dress is a little too small."

Ellie: "Not to small. It fits me."

Me: "If you say so... What pants and shirt would you like to wear under?" (I knew the dress would still fit.. snugly.)

Ellie: "Same-same colors. White. [picking up the white long-sleeves shirt out of her drawer]. Blue pants."

Me: "That actually works pretty well, I think."

I was afraid she'd go for green pants with an orange long-sleeved shirt under the pink dress, but she coordinated fairly well -- and did so intentionally from what I can surmise.

It took her a while to put everything on. She did the shirt and the dress herself, but asked for help with the leggings and buttoning her dress up.

Once we got downstairs we spent a while reading her latest princess book (that she got for going poo-poo on the potty at school yesterday) featuring Cinderella and spinning and dancing like a princess. She asked me to spin her around like how Cinderella dances.

That's Ellie laughing at Gus-Gus. She looks unhappy, but she's laughing.

Ellie also had fun waiting for the bus.. and getting an unexpected greeting (I think.) Somebody yelled "Hi, Ellie!" (or what I thought was "Hi, Ellie!" .. sounded like it) from a passing car. I couldn't see who it was, but Ellie heard it, too.

Ellie: "Somebody say 'Hi.' to me, Daddy."

Me: "Yeah, I think so. But I couldn't tell who."

Ellie: "Oh..."

She then looked (the wrong way) down the road for the car from whence the greeting came. It *was* traveling toward daycare, at least, so it could have been a friend, I suppose.
