Our morning began with breakfast at home -- with Ellie actually turning down a "special breakfast" at Zume's or the Grasshopper in favor of toast with cream cheese. We'll go get a good meal tomorrow.
After that we went to the zoo where Ellie had a fun time visiting all her favorite animals.. and also playing on a newly discovered fancy playground at the zoo's back entrance. We had to go park there because there was a special event at the zoo.. and all the peoples' cars for that took up the entire front lot. Before leaving the zoo, though, I treated Ellie to one ride on the "round and round horsies" because she went to the bathroom on one of the big girl potties at the zoo. (Actually a big boy potty as it was in the men's room, but you catch my drift.)
The playground by the zoo has a ton of fancy equipment, bouncy rides (like a ladybug and a bumblebee), and several musical instruments -- not to mention a super-tall twisty slide which was pretty fun. It also has a science-type station where you can turn over vials of beads, water, goop, and other things to see how fast they drain from one half of the contraption to the other. (It's through that thing the second picture below was taken.)
After naptime we were treated to some free ice cream at the re-opening of some neighborhood ball fields. That was on our way down to the Navy Yard playground where Ellie spent about an hour digging around in the sandbox, filling up thar big dump truck and otherwise amusing herself.
Before coming inside upon arriving home we picked some tomatoes.
